Debit cards or postal orders will clear immediately. So, it is your choice. But, make sure you check with your bank that there is not limit on the transaction on your account (some members had problems with this previously). Also inform them that you are expecting a transaction from home office for X amount.

Postal orders are expensive but safer.

'We cannot begin the consideration process
until the payment has cleared. We allow 5
working days for payments made by cheque to
clear, credit/debit cards and postal orders will
clear immediately.'

Steps to avoid problems:
  • Inform the bank that there would be a transaction of the amount that you pay to HO.
If you have multiple cards, use different cards for different applicants (Sometimes, when there are more than one transaction, the frauds department from the bank would block the transaction)

I would recommend postal order to avoid all the hassels and stress of using card and hoping that bank will clear the transaction. It will only cost you approx £40 more.

1.It in payable to "Home Office"? Is that all I need to say at Post office?

2.Do I need two different Postal Orders for me and dependant?

-- Yes. Say at counter 'Payable to Home Office' Dont forget to Cross each postal order as A/c payee and do not miss giving the details on each of the PO at the back side. Details such as name, address and date of birth.

2.Do I need two different Postal Orders for me and dependant?
I guess max. variant of postal order is 250 pound. hence for your fees you might need 4 Po's. dependent PO have to be seperate one. You will get 50 pound single postal order.

Again do nt forget to mark as a/c payee and details on the back.

Postal Order

I went to the post office to purchase postal order and was asked to pay by cash. So be wary and take some cash with you.

All the best!
