I think you should pay the 2000 and show your maintenance fee as 1600 for the period they ask

Maintenance funds are in addition to unpaid fees

Your maintenance funds are in addition to any unpaid fees and will depend on where you live. Download the Tier 4 student visa application form and the Tier 4 application help text from the UKBA website. It has more details.

According to this document:
L9 A student studying in inner London must show that he/she has access to £800 for each calendar month of his/her course up to a maximum of 2 months. To work out the amount of funding for maintenance a student requires he/she should multiply £800 by the number of months they will be in the UK. e.g.
£800 x 2 months of study = £1,600 of required maintenance

L10 A student studying in outer London or anywhere else in the United Kingdom must show that he/she has access to £600 for each calendar month of his/her course up to a maximum of 2 months. To work out the amount of funding for maintenance a student requires he/she should multiply £600 by the number of months they will be in the UK. e.g.
£600 x 2 months of study = £1,200 of required maintenance

Hope it helps

u need to ask for ur CAS paper, where u'll find out exactly what fund u are looking for.

but as u stated u have to show £3600.00 for last 1 month and no more then 10 days prior to ur application.

as far as i m concern Tution fees are what left for ur education and maintanance is £1600.00 if u r in inner london and have established presence.
