Post by Peg » Tue Apr 13, 2010 6:43 pm

i am from non eu country studying in ireland. i don't need a student visa but i need to get an gnib card.

i am still doing in the 3 year degree. in my second year. i got a job offer from an employer who is willing to apply a work permit for me and there is a proof that non eu people can do that (it's a language thing).

i know usually u hv to finish the degree and get the graduate scheme and the work permit. but can i jump the steps?

i am highly qualify for that job even though i have nt yet finished my degree here. i've already got a degree and a postgraudate diploma (specialisd) in the area.

As far as I am aware (Guru's feel free to correct me), you cannot change your status from within Ireland.
Change of status:
In the case of a non visa required national it is open to you to seek to change your immigration status with your local Immigration Officer, outlining details of your future intentions in the State. You should be in a position to provide documentary evidence of the proposed change to your immigration status.

Should a visa required national wish to change their status they must first leave the State and apply for the appropriate visa at their nearest Irish Embassy or Consular Office should they wish to return outlining the purpose of their journey.

In order to change from student visa to work visa, I think you will have to return to your home country and apply from their. Make sure you bring your work contract with you to provide as evidence.

Here is the work permit website http://www.entemp.ie/labour/workpermits/

Hi Peg

I got it from the immigration website.

http://www.inis.gov.ie

Have a look through that to see if anything helps you.

As far as I know, if you have finished a (full-time) course of studies, you may get a job and change your status without leaving Ireland, see

Policy in relation to Employment Permit applications under the Graduate Scheme

Also, if you are a full-time student, you can work part-time WITHOUT a work permit. If I am not mistaken, this was recently restricted to students of particular university colleges. Look on DETE website/call DETE for details. Then please report your findings here. Thanks!
