Date of Visa Activation.

Post by buttercup88 » Wed Apr 14, 2010 3:36 pm

I just got my 2 yr visa.... it says it's valid from 08/04/2010-08/07/2012.

On the forum, people say you have three months to activiate it.
(where exactly is this on the UKBA website?)

On the application I wrote down my proposed travel date as the 5th of June.

Does that mean I can travel anytime within the next three months to the UK or must I wait until my proposed travel date (June 5) to activate the visa?

Now you have your visa you can travel anytime to the UK but it is advisable to come as soon as possible to avoid complications with your next step which is ILR, which must be applied for before expiry of your visa

Agree with Mochyn.
Though, if you were always planning to leave on June 5, you would have been better off requesting a postdated visa, when you made the application.
Otherwise, you're good to go from date of issue of visa! :)

wait... but i thought i had to enter the uk within a certain amount of time?

and how do you get a post-dated visa?
I requested entering on June 5th and it came back as April 8th starting date.

anyways, we've got tickets for june 8th so that's when we're going.
cant change it now, i just hope it doesnt mess anything up.

You have till 7/7/10 to get into UK.If you do, you will have no problem with your next stage of application which will be when you apply for ILR in less than two yrs time.

Not exactly true, you can enter at any time within the validity of the visa.

That is correct, but you will have problems with ILR say if you come in 6 months time as you will not have completeed 2 yrs residence period to qualify for ILR.

You will then have to first apply for FLR to make up the two years before you eventually apply for ILR.( which will cost you extra money)

The whole purpose of the 27 months visa instead of the previous 24 months, is to allow people to make arrangement for travel within a reasonable time after obtaining their visa ( 3 months) and thus enabling you to complete 2 yrs residence period fro your ILR.
