The fee for a standard ceremony in UK was included in the fee you paid for naturalisation.

The length depends on the enthusiasm of the local authority organising it, and the number of people picking up certificates. But you should be able to "get it over with" well within an hour....

Quite lucky as you didn't have to wait long... Mine is in end of Feb as the council only does once in 6/8 wks. Didn't want to pay for a private one as not in a rush...

Got my approval in the post today. Finishing my timeline:
(4 yr WP+1 yr ILR)

Applied through NCS: Jan 6, 2006
Acknowledgement Letter: Jan 12, 2006
Approval letter received: 18 feb 2006

A quick question. I need to travel to my original home country in 2 weeks and I don't think I have enough time to finish the ceremony and get the BP+visa. So, I want to go there on my current passport and come back in 3 weeks. Then, I can go for the ceremony. That should still be within 3 months timeline. Guess I am not British till I go for the ceremony. Any issues?

No problem. You clearly appreciate the three month time limit, so do ensure that you comply with that.

Before you go you might want to contact your local Council and arrange a date for your ceremony after your return.
Guess I am not British till I go for the ceremony.
Absolutely right! You become British at the instant your certificate is handed to you at the Citizenship Ceremony.

Applied at Harringey NCS on January 23rd on 4 yrs WP + 1 yr ILR.
24/01/2006 - Application received in Liverpool
04/02/2006 - Fee debited
10/02/2006 - Received acknowledgment letter, dated 08/02

Interestingly, my acknowledgment letter doesn't include the standard "while we carry out the character reference checks" that I read other members received in their letters.

Nothing happened since then!

Its been a month now, should I start panicking or I should wait bit more ?

Against a background of an average wait time of slightly over four months ... of course not!

Do appreciate that IND in Liverpool are still recovering from the deluge of applications received in October just before the Citizenship Test requirement came into force.

Does that means Dudley / Liverpool is not a ideal place to apply at the moment ?

Nope! nothing yet.... everyday I check my posts(mail) and bank account.... no letters, nothing debited... I read on some other thread that the letter will be glossy... not the usual white or brown paper envelope... normally I throw glossy ones straight to recycle bin(assuming its all junk mail).. But I am being bit careful these days...

My approval letter came in a white envelope and indeed glossy paper inside it. Though, they have put home office's design on the top. So, you can't miss
it.
Letter of invitation from my local council came in brown envelope with ordinary paper.
