Taylondon, very sorry to hear about the refusal. It's rather cruel they made you wait so long when other refusals were disclosed much earlier. Anyhow, you can still have another go at it, which is one positive to draw from all this.

Regarding the way UKBA Liverpool operates, I recently had a little insight from someone who actually works there (a FOAF more like). Apparently a lot of the staff are on rolling contracts (typically 3-6 months) and it can happen that some contracts are not renewed etc. This was rather surprising to me as I expected UKBA would want to hire permanent staff and train them to a high standard. Instead, it would appear temps are favoured, so this doesn't say much about the level of training junior caseworkers have and these are people with potentially life-changing powers.

Just came across this forum and have to say its a great source of information. Congrats all who've received ILR.

My boyfriend has just applied under 10 year rule. We are not sure if this circumstance amounts to a gap. His student visa expired on 31 August 06, his work permit application was made by employer and received by HO on 12 August 06. Thus well before the expiry of student visa. Work permit was issued on 12 September 06, sent his passport to have it endorsed in passport on 14 September.

On 23 August 06 he called the HO and they assured him that whiles his work permit application was with them if his student expires he will still be legal, when he sent his passport on 14 September he included a covering letter giving the name of the HO worker who gave him this assurance.

Does anyone know if this amounts to a gap? And the ukba should have all the records of when the work permit was applied on 12 August right?

london101, did you actually get a reply in just 13.6 weeks? Wow,that's really brilliant. Do let us know some more details i.e. did you also apply under 10 year category, were all 10 years on a student visa, did you go though a solicitor or did you apply on your own etc.

Yes I got it back under 14 weeks . As I said in my previous message, I applied under the 10 year category (7 year student and 3 year work permit). I applied on my own (no solicitors) Also I never called them to enquire nor did I contact my local MP (I don't even know who he or she is!). So basically, I sent it by post, and tried to forget about it.

Anyway, I don't really know why mine took a short time (well relatively speaking that is still more than 3 months for £820!). All I can think of is maybe they take a few applications from the top of their pile to make up their stats, or maybe the Sheffield office is more efficient (again relatively speaking), or perhaps it is a sheer matter of luck.

In any case, I think the fact that I got mine quickly is a good sign for all of you who are still waiting. It just means that you don't have to wait for 6 months+ to hear from HO unlike previously thought, and also hearing from them in 3 months or less does not necessarily mean that your application is rejected.

No he hasn't requested SAR file. He doesn't know if he's worrying about nothing because he applied for his WP way before expiry of his student visa. He has got all the letters (acknowledgment and requesting further docs) from the HO for this period showing that he applied b4 his student expired

If the jan ones are cleared then i hope mine is done soon.Its like the volcanic ash no idea of when things will be done.But the application is very straight forward so not expecting delays/surprise decisions as there are no gaps etc

hi, i am waiting the outcome of my application as well. I sent mine (10yr) on 20th jan 2010 and received acknowledgment letter on 22nd and money debited the same day. Now its just wait i suppose!
