Work Permit Cancelled

Post by liljack » Mon Apr 19, 2010 11:52 am

Hi.
I am an Australian citizen on a work permit in the UK and am due to leave work middle of June 2010 therefore I know my work permit will be cancelled as they sponsor me, even though it is valid until 2013.

However I am wondering if there is a time period where you can lawfully stay in the country. As I am looking at leaving permanently at the end of July. But I need to sort out all arrangements before doing so.
But I want to still be able to come back for holidays so I do not want to overstay or anything as this will probably affect me being able to come back into the country at a later date.

Thanx in advance for any advice given.

Lisa

Under the old work permit rules, my understanding was you had 28 days to find a new job or leave the UK once your company notified UKBA of the termination of your contract.

However, under the new Tier 2 arrangements, it would appear this has been lengthened to 60 days, unless you have fewer than 6 months left on the visa in which case you can stay until it expires. Please see the last paragraph on this link.
