I paid using a cheque rather than credit/debit card via NCS. Would it take longer than 5-6 days for the cheque to clear up and ind to send acknowledgment letter if things go down smoothly.

Sorry for the confusion, but that was the question ?

I applied at Dudley!

Also, I gave my Credit Card for payment, which is not debited yet.

Hello Guys... I phoned the IND today..and they said my approval letter is on the way.. I should be receiving it pretty soon

I applied at the begining of October 2005, by a Solicitor.

Received no acknowledgement letter or anything... Sent millions of emails but they didn't work.

Finally sent an e-mail addressing to the senior management and I think it worked! because shortly after...

Received a letter on the 2nd week of January 06, asking for further supporting documents. (altough my Solicitor was harsh, lol, She wrote to the IND that, the supporting documents already provided are sufficient, so, she asked them to consider them. But she also told me I can send theose documents again if I want, and I did so.)

Sent the documents on the 1st February 06.

Phoned the IND to find out about the progress on 21 February 06, and the asnwer was the approval letter is on it's way.

Just wondering as you have mentioned Liverpool as well... shouldn't matter if you applied at Dudley.

Hi confused1,

did they tell you how soon exactly? I have a similar situation and they told me "in a couples of weeks". One week has already gone since. They also told me they are about to contact my local council about my ceremony (?). Why do they need to contact it - does anybody know? :?

Because that is where they will send your naturalisation certificate!

Ok, bbdivo. So it means they send you an app. letter only after they have had contacted your council. Is it right?

In a normal course of action, once an application has been approved for naturalisation, the IND send out two letters...one to the applicant and the other to the local council. Upon receiving the letter, the council then books the applicant in to the next available ceremony and then sends another letter to the applicant to confirm if they are able to attend the ceremony on the said date/day.

So, in short, the applicant gets two letters, one from IND and one from council.

Hope this helps.

will send your naturalisation certificate!
you wont be sent your naturalisation certificate, you will receive it from the mayor or whoever is officiating the cermony

of course you got to take the invitation sent for the ceremony to the ceremony that gets you entry to the ceremony

but it is the received naturalisation certificate which is the all important paper which gets you the shiny red booklet

Not necessarily. a lot of councils do not send letters. Mine doesn't.I received two letters from the IND - one a letter saying I had approval and the other a citizenship ceremony invitation. I had to contact the council on my own.
My wife just received the citizenship invitation directly and nothing else.

Thanks for the clarification, though i did say " in normal course of action"... obviously your example is a deviation from that... but important to note.

Woohoo!

I've just got my approval letter :D Excellent! It was dated 14 February (exactly the day I phoned the IND for update). It also asked me to contact the local council within 14 days. So when I got the letter just 5 days left and I did it straight away. I am feeling happy!

Will post my full application schedule soon...

UPDATE ON MY TIMELINE POST

I received my approval letter yesterday - so here's an update on my list

Applied at Harringey NCS on January 23rd on 4 yrs WP + 1 yr ILR.
24/01/2006 - Application received in Liverpool
04/02/2006 - Fee debited
10/02/2006 - Received acknowledgment letter, dated 08/02
23/02/2006 - Received approval/ ceremony invitation letter, dated 16/02

I saw that some people received an approval letter and a separate invitation letter. I got one letter for both: it says my application was approved and that I am to contact my local council (full contact details included) as soon as possible to arrange the citizenship ceremony.

confused1 and petimiru, - my congratulations :D

petimiru, I've received the same kind of a letter. From the telephone conversation with my local council (I was discussing my ceremony date) I understood they'd post me a letter of my ceremony date and time confirmation. Hope everything will go smoothly from now...
