Ideal salary to survive in UK

Post by PRadeep Itnal » Mon May 10, 2010 2:57 pm

Hi all

Guys i got my visa stamped last month. I am planning to travel to UK and hunt for a job. I have few queries, please help me with them ......

1. I am married, my wife is gonna join me after a month or 2, once i get a job and find a house there. My query is what would be the ideal salary i must be drawing, to lead a comfortable life there? Ya i know it varies from places to places in UK. But I really dont know which place i am going to get a job. So on an average how much i should earn there. kindly let me know.

vague question:- what skills have you got..... what is your lifestyle... would you be supporting your family backhome? ....... where are you going to live .... would you be driving? .....

Many Questions

I would say if you are to earn 50k£ plus you ll be on safe side.

Good Luck

The answer would depend on what you define as "comfortable life". Some are comfortable with 40K and some even with 100K aren't.

ya i agree it all depends upon how much i am going to spend and my way of defining what is "comfortable" for me. I just want to know the average salary to run a family. hope i am clear now.

20K is sufficient to *run* a family (of 2).

Thanks for the reply. sushDmehta.
I have a offer in glasgow offering me 30 K Pounds per year. Is it true that salary above 30K pounds outside london is enuf to run a better life. Again better i meant a middle class family typo...

Gross 30K = Net 22.6K (approx.)

You are seeking answers to subjective queries, and IMHO, it is difficult for anyone to tell you one way or the other - as has been indicated in responses above.

This question has been asked and answered a number of times in previous posts. Suggest you spend some time and go through those threads than ask such vague questions and expect members to post the same replies again!

Or possibly read this for a start and to put figures into perspective.

Having a job before entering UK is a great deal. Just go for it. I am in Glasgow and I can say that 30K is pretty OK for a family of two. If you spend wisley then you may save 500-600 pounds each month.

You can rent a decent flat from 375 pounds.
Commutaion is pretty cheap if you go by BUS or buy a zone card. Probably 80 pounds max.

Rest all is almost same as anywhere in UK.

All the best!

£500 to £600 at today's conversion rates is just about Rs35000 to Rs40000 if you are from India. Given one has secured the Tier 1 Visa, they must be earning as decent salary back home itself to save that much in Rupees!!!

No jobs out here and even if there are few then you need to be really good to bag them. And if you even do so, and in the end only save approx £600 then what's the point of coming here - that is, if you are coming here for the money and not migrating for good to enjoy English life....

Think well, be practical and given the growing Asian market, many tend to now earn a lot more there than in the UK!!!

Cheers

Because from your recent rant and display of English skills it will be impossible to get through a real technical interview. And even if you manage, then HR are going to eat you up along with your ideas.....

why on earth people who are settled..have a family think of relocating to live average lifestyles??..is this mentality only with Indians who feel the grass is greener on the other side(the advanced world like the UK)....trust me dude India is where you should be!!
