Maintenance Funds - £799.90 for about 2 hours, is it ok?

Post by sabjose » Tue Feb 16, 2010 11:48 am

Hi All,
My account fell below £800 by 10p for just 2 hours one day! I immediately put the money into the account the same day but the amount £799.90 is now shown on the statement.

Realistically, what are the chances that Home Office will accept that?
Are there any other alternatives?

I bank with Barclays.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions/replies.

It supposed to be exactly £800 all day, for each and every day of those three months.

If you have time I would recommend putting the money in a separate account for three months so you don't run into this problem again. If you don't you probably should go home and apply from there.

You can browse the boards, many others have been in the same situation and this tends to be the advice they get.

Good luck! :)

Do this at your EARLIEST.

1) Write a covering letter mention your balance dropped for 10 p.
2) Get a statement from another account with your name on it, and argue that on the day your balance dropped by 10 p, There was atleast 10 p in another account under your name.
3)Show the caseworker that when you combine both accounts balance, on the day it shows 799.90, you have funds available to you in excess of 800 pounds; hence u satisfy the requirement.

Caseworker's hands are tied and he/she HAS to refuse your application because you did not have 800 pounds for 3 months period. So its up to you to cover for 10 p.

When did you submit your application? When is it going to be processed according to the waiting times on the website

i have heard about similar cases before where the visa got rejected by HO....Later they appealed and got the visa.......

i would sugegst you to just relax and wait for the response as it might be no problem in your case because it depends a lot on the case worker..

God forbids if it gets rejected you will still be able to appeal and win easily. the only thing oyu will loose is time

Simple my friend!
If you have replaced the money in same day, do not worry, you balance can only show £799.90 online not in statement. Barclays and some other banks show balances at close of business.
if you statement will come before you apply, wait until it comes, you will not see the £799.90, but if it will not come and you intend to print online. I am sorry it will continue to show this.

what you have to do is, Call your bank now and change your statement date to any day from 2moro, so that they will close the statement on that day and send you original statement within 4 days, when you get it, then you can print the rest days online.

Having another account elsewhere is also good. But first, if you can do this, Your account will NEVER show the shortfall in balance.

Sample (Online Statement)

Date Credit Debit Balance
11/02/2010 £5.00 £805.00
11/02/2010 £10.00 £810.00
11/02/2010 £0.10 £799.90
10/02/2010 £800.00
---------------------------------------------------------------
From above you can see that transactions follows in ascending order, and Balance is showed after each credit or debit transaction.

=================================

Sample (Paper Statement)

Date Credit Debit Balance
10/02/2010 £800.00
11/02/2010 £0.10
11/02/2010 £10.00
11/02/2010 £5.00 £805.00
------------------------------------------------------------------
From above you can see that transactions follows in descending order, and only the days final balance is showed at close of business day.
When the debit entry for £0.10 and £5.00 are made, the balance did not show, also the credit of £10.00, but balance is showed after all day's transaction.

PostMan, You're a star!
The balance was in deficit last week and I'd just received the paper statements and it is just as you said! The balance doesn't show it go below the £800 mark. So that's fantastic!

I have a personal appointment booked for next week. Lets see how it goes!

Thanks everyone for all your advice and suggestions!
