on the other hand those with positive attitude towards everything, even times when things don't go the way they wanted,as long as they still keep up with the positive thinking they still get it in the end. So I hope everyone here who suffer from this dreadful waiting, don't be defeat by the negative force, after all we do need a little bit of luck for this matter, don't we?
just out of curiosity,Cardi..Did you go to Oxbridge?cos one of my friend who read economics there (BA/MA/PHD) applied ILR Under 10 yrs student visa got hers in 3weeks....
Again congratulations!!!!
Yes ILR-2010, Positive thinking is very important...also when other people wish you Positive wishes and when they have positive thoughts about you, then that is even more important in terms of their thoughts influencing things/success happening in your life....so I totally agree with you and share the same thoughts as you....
Actually I am quite surprised you asked me this question...yes I did MSc in International Relations at Cambridge Uni...Wolfson College....back in 2001....it was 2 year course...first year was taught programme where I had to attend lectures and tutorials.whereas the second year was research..just had to work on my thesis and just had to keep in touch with my primery and the secondary supervisors to update them as to my progress....
(I remember I went to HO in 2001 to extend my student visa together with the acceptance letter from Camr Uni which said my course is 2 years...but the HO gave me only 1 year visa...and I remember I was quite angry and told the caseworker why only 1 year visa when my course is 2 years?...then he said "we will see your progress after 1 year and see what happends then..")
So had to extend again after 1 year...
But the problem with MSc (Masters of Science) even if it is from Cabr. uni it was very difficult for me to get any job offers....that is why I continued to stay on student visas all of thwe 10 years...
....The problem is with MSC (inernat.relations) you can only get some jobat some inernational organisations..United Nations..WTO...IMF..etc...and there is a fierce competition even for Inernships..and een if you get a job...it pays you nuttsss....
So i had to do some other degrees afterwards...did my LLM....anybody here did any LLM? would be nice to share experiencess....
my last degree on the basis of which i extended my last 10th year of my student visas was based on PhD as welll....the good thing with PhDs is that you have a chance for 3 years visa extension...my PhD was 3 years...I dont know how bout your frieds'? Is it the same length?
(With PhDs, I personally find it ery boring and lonely degree...nobody to talk to...you are just on your own with your main supervisors whom you se may be twice a year....just contact via e-mail..etc..)
So yes thats my story ILR-2010....how about you?
Cardi, that made all the sense now,so HO does look at a person's character etc....good to know that...
I'm studying at LSE done Bsc Econ& LLB here, currently doing Msc Econ...hopefully I can pursue the phd in the near future....that'll be a tough decision to make btw Oxford or the US...
Thanks again,I do hope everyone here will get ILR stamped bk soon
Hi ILR-2010,
LSE is very reputable academic institution...you must be very lucky to get a place there...its quite expensive as well, isnt it? especially if you are paying overseas rate....( i had to pay overseas rate all my life...was very tough...was just really meeting my ends with part time jobs..and obviously full time during when it is not term time....)...really tough...
I also heard aout LBS...(London School of business) . I heard they compete with LSE? is that right? I also know few of my friends did some business degrees at LBS and the rates over there were redicilously expensive (£30,000 per year)...but few of my friends fees were paid by thier emplyers...Investmkent banks...and one of my friends paid for LBS fee himself...in thinkiong it will pay him off later...which it did....he found a rally good jobin canary wharf....
I dont know anybody personally who did degrees at LSE...but I heard a lot that empoyers want just snap you up to give you job...emploers compete for you...thats what I heard anyway....
ILR-2010, you hve done your LLB - its a proper law degree, why you didnt go on to do your LPC? then your 2 year training contract?
I havent done LLB, although I did GDL (conversion) then got an acceptance place for LPC t BPP near Holborn....I had to drop LPC.....as their timetable was really not convenient for me...as I had my part time job and it was clashing...so money was important for me to survive...so had to drop it....so at the end I just lost interest...as I carried on with my part time jobs in finance....
you know if you wanna do your LPC...you can do part time or even full time at Thames Uni...one of my friends (who is practicing at the law firm) but he wants to qualify by LPC...he said THames Uni is very cheap..they charge very cheap for LPC...I am not sure whether you are interested in pursuing your LPC but just thought will let you know....
I am quite intriquied you want to do your Phd...it doesnt pay off later much...unless it is in mathematical subjects....then you will get snapped up by investement bsnks very easily...or unless you want to become and academician(professor) and teach and research at uni as a proper job.
which area you want to do in PhD? Is it economics as well?
I hope you wont get boored with your Phd. It is a very booring degree to do, in my experience anyway...you will be lucky if you will get a good supervisor....my supervisor was very picky...he would pick every single word I write and critisice it for 2 hours...I was always rewriting my drafts constantly...at the end I complained to Uni that he is never happy with what I write...and they change it to another one...he turned out to be muh better....so everybody have different experiencess...
HOw about your MSc in Economics..is it with the emphasis on mathematics?
