Calculating ILR qualification period

Post by 1273 » Thu Jun 03, 2010 8:26 pm

I received my first work permit visa stamp in my passport on August 20, 2005 and entered the UK September 30, 2005. I want to make sure of the time I would be qualified to apply for ILR.

Do I calculate from the date of the Stamp in my passport or the date of entry in UK?

Can either be one of the two: roughly ;;<

a) July 20, 2009 b) August 30 2009

Can you also tell me : When would I be able to apply for naturalization?

Can you help me please...
Thanks

ILR (settlement) and naturalisation are two different things!

You may apply for ILR no earlier than 28 days before the 5th anniversery of date of entry in the UK (i.e. - 30-Sep-05). You may apply for naturalisation after 12 months of being granted settlement (ILR).

Naturalisation

I thought after you completed 5 years and have ILR then you can apply for naturalization.

Do I have to spend 6 years in the UK before I can be naturalised?

Yes.
Immigration time restrictions wrote:You must be free from immigration time restrictions when you apply for naturalisation. Unless you are married to or the civil partner of a British citizen, you should have been free from immigration time restrictions during the last 12 months of the residential qualifying period.
