You have a student visa, but are you still a student in the UK?

Other opinions welcome but I think you can re-enter the UK as a student to resume your studies.

Having done so I think your wife should make application on form EEA1 (assuming she does not already have a Residence Permit in her French passport), and you should apply on form EEA2 as her family member.

Totally possible I am overlooking something here so if anyone thinks I have overlooked something, don't hesitate to post.

A couple of days ago I would have said ... 4 years. However yesterday the Government announced that for quite a few categories the "4 years" would become "5 years". And that includes EU Citizens.

So if your wife came to the UK in 2004 she will need to wait until the 5th anniversary in 2009 before applying for her Permanent Residence sticker. Therefore she cannot possibly apply for British Citizenship until a year late ... sometime in 2010.
