Father's name slightly different on passport and Degree

Post by abhi_011 » Thu Jun 17, 2010 3:15 pm

Hi All,

While reviewing my documents i found a discrepancy between my father's name mentioned in my passport and degree certificate.

Does somebody think this will have any adverse impact on my application. In case yes, could somebody please advice me how this situation can be handled. Request you to please point me to the relevant document, as i could not find the same in the guidance documemnts.

Eagerly waiting for the response.

Thanks,
Abhimanyu

It should not matter in my opinion. I understand a high visa fee is at stake. However, I would have applied with worrying about it. Cheers!

I feel it should not matter because they would not be dependents unlike spouse. Senior members could throw more light on this.

OP needs supporting letter for clarification. I had similar issue and provided self-attested letter issued from Indian Embassy, London during Tier-1. But getting letter from Indian Embassy will be pain.

Hi All,

Thanks all for your replies.

@Chetan: I'll be getting the notarized affidavit from india (as I'm currently in switzerland) on behalf of my father, stating that the first name (in passport) & second name (on degree) is one and the same person.

Do you think this would suffice or still should i get letter from embassy.

thanks,
Abhinamyu

I have not seen father's name on degree certificate. Hence, I would care less about spelling of father's name on degree certificate while applying visa. I strongly believe caseworker can not reject your T1 on this discrepency. If It it was spouse visa and your name was slightly incorrect (spelling mistake) on spouse passport then I would have been certainly worried.

I had applied my T1 in Switzerland and had spoken to caseworker too. My impression is, you need only main supporting documents correct rather worrying about father's name discrepency.

I was the first T1 candidate in Switzerland. Hence, I had to educate VAC guy (not the caseworker) about T1 application procedure.
