question on proof of stay

Hello All,
Here is a question on Proof of stay.

If I get a Tier-1, I am planning to stay with my friend in UK. However, he is staying in a "rented" house. Is it ok if I get a letter from him stating that i can join him in his rented house?

If not, I am ready to book a hotel.

-> For how many days i have to book the hotel ?
-> What is the best website for booking cheap hotels in london.
-> I am planning to book the cheapest hotel . Will the assessing office think it is a bogus one if i book a very cheap hotel?

Wrong forum for the post. But an advice would be to read Tier-1 Guidance and check what is says about accommodation requirements.
