What is an allowance?

is paid in the form of money?
if I have a company car (a car which the company gives me for private use), the value of the leasing of the car is added to the gross total, but not paid in the form of money (pad in the means of car usage + fuel).
does it mean that the company car is allowance?

so allowance can be something that is not paid in the form salary/funds?
