Why not visitor visa insted of tier1 dependant visa

Post by Laksonline » Sun Jul 04, 2010 10:47 pm

Hi guys

I'm in UK from past 1 month and have plans of getting my mom here
was just wondering what difference it makes if I file a long term visitor visa

reason being she is old and might not be able to bear the cold weather here in winters, and I might have to send her back if that is the case

coming here on visitor visa will not have access to free medical facilities??

Any light u guys can throw on this or any pointers

There is no Tier 1 dependent visa for parents. No free medical treatment as a visitor except emergency treatment such as if she has a fall, even then if she goes to a ward she may get charged. Visitors can only come for six months at a time, even with a 'long term visitor visa'. If your mother has not had a visitor visa before, it is extremely unlikely she will get a 'long term' one in any case. If she tries to come to the UK for more than six months out of twelve it is likely she will be refused entry clearance and/or entry at the airport.

Not here there isn't

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/polic ... 1migrants/

This is the section of the immigration rules for family members of points based system migrants - this applies to your family, and there is no provision for mothers of any age, widowed or not.

You've asked this before, and the rules have not changed.

The chance of your mother being able to come to the UK on a visitor visa and then being able to stay as your dependent whilst you are on Tier 1 is zero, because your mother cannot be your dependent because you are on Tier 1. Your wife and child could not come to the UK as visitors and then get an application approved to stay in the UK as your Tier 1 dependents, but they can apply for this in their home country.

Despite the impression the tabloid press give, you can only bring your partner and children. Even when you get ilr, it would be difficult to bring anyone else as a dependent. Plus you should think about health insurance.
