What is the minimum period to claim points for earnings?

Post by bwaqas » Thu Jul 08, 2010 6:24 pm

We all know that the maximum period for which we can claim earning points is last 12 months but what is the minimum period? Is it 3, 5 or 6 Months?

Can I kindly have an answer on this one please?

And suppose if I show the earnings of last 7 months and show that I am earning GBP 2830 per month then will I by able to claim points offered against the salary band of 30 - 35K ??

I will be eagerly waiting for your reply guys... Thanks in advance

The guidelines mention that you can claim points for any period less than 12 months but they will not be considered on a pro rata basis.

Thanks for the reply but can you kindly elaborate the 'pro rata basis' or in short, simply tell me that can I show my earnings of the last 7 months only with 2830 being my monthly income before tax and claim points for it ??

No. If you show 2830 for 7 months, your earnings will be 19810 GBP and you will fall in the Under 25,000 slab which will give you 0 points. When I said, pro rata, i meant that they will not consider 2830 per month for 12 months which will put you in 30,000 to 34,999 slab.

http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply ... t#21980509 gives you more information on this.

aye... thanks a ton mate.. thanks a ton. That page of yours helped me a lot regarding few other things as well.

I need to ask u one more question plz? I have got PSW which is expiring in Nov 2010 but since last year, I am in Pakistan doing textile business with two other partners (family friends).

Now will I be switching from PSW to HSMP which I can or will I be making an initial application from Pakistan?

Coz if I apply from Pakistan which falls under the Country Band D, I am suppose to multiply my UK equivalent salary to 5.3 and then select the salary band.

Now 2800 pounds per month for 7 months mean 19600. now after multiplying it by 5.3, my earnings become 103,880 giving me 45 points (more than enough for me).

Am I right ?

Shall be waiting for you reply. Thanks a ton.

I don't know about conversion from PSW to Tier 1. So i may not be the best person to answer this.

If your 2830 per month earning was in the UK, then you cant use the uplift ratio.
