Resident card (EEA) and Schengen visa requirements

Post by gr8sjaans » Thu Jul 22, 2010 6:41 pm

Hello

Married in September 2008 in UK marriage office (marriage registered in UK)
Received Resident Card in August 2009
My question is
Want to apply for Schengen Visa to go to Portugal for visit but….
Our marriage is not registered in Portugal embassy in London.
So after getting information from Portugal embassy so lady in embassy told me that you can apply on your own, not through your wife
My question is that do I need a hotel, ticked booking and travel insurance?
And what documents of my wife I can submit with Schengen form for visa?

Thanks

Why would you need that? Is your spouse Portuguese?

Most likely, yes.

You will have to show sufficient funds for the period of your stay. If your finances are in your wife's name then you would obviously need bank statements and such from her.

What prevents you from registering your marriage?

Obviously not. But you may need an invitation letter or maybe something more formal involving a solicitor or notary public for example. Maybe best to get this information through your Portuguese relatives directly in Portugal.

Seeing that you actually have a residence card. There was some info recently here that it should be no problem to travel to Portugal with it. Do you have any other information? But possibly the problem is that your wife is Portuguese.
