Hi Moderators,

I applied for HSMP in 2003 which was rejected, as could not qualify 65 points. Then I migrated to Melbourne(Australia) in Jan, 2004.

I am now Australian citizen and still have intention to come UK. I am working as Snr. UNIX system Admin & now earning about GBP27K/annum.
from my current job.The situation is

In Jan,2007 my experience will be 10 years , with more than five years as senior expert level experience (note that I got 35 points as I claimed in 2003, for my 3 years expert level experience). My concerns are

1:- Should I apply for HSMP with 10 years experience with 5 years as expert/senior level experience (50 pionts) or wait until new point based system will replace the current HSMP system? Note that I can't claim any point for age under new proposed system?

2:- I have got Bachelor degree (15 points) (also got assessment from UK assessment authority).

3:- If I apply under HSMP , probably I will not get any point as my salary is below GBP 40K. But as per command document I will get 25 points under new point based system?

4:- Note that for my first 3 years expert level experience , I have sufficient documentation as proof, but for next 2 years I have only job description which is for Snr. Unix System Admin at one of Australia's prestigious University and offer letter.

5:- As I can see from command document at the moment there is no sign of experience in the new proposed points based system.

Please advise.

Cheers,
Zia

1. Don't rely too much on the proposed scheme as published recently - it's too premature.

2. It is very difficult to get points for 'senior' experience if your salary does not correspond to such level. At £27k , I find it hard to believe that your experience will be counted as 'senior'.

I am surprised y would u want to shift to UK if u r already doing good in Australia. I personally think that Australia is a more better place to work and live.

It depends on your work profile etc. UK and Europe offers much better exposure and experience in certain IT areas. Of course before anyone jumps up and down it is not a general statement - but I know many Aussies specially techies working or wanting to work in UK and Europe.

I share this observation. I would wonder why you would want to relocate such a long way so soon after establishing yourself in Australia.

There are some personal reasons behind reloacting after establishing in Australia. But question is what will be impact in devising the said proposed point based immigration system after home Secretary's statement for caring the IT sector while devising the new proposed point based immigration system?
