Extension criteria are laid down in the guidance under which your were issued the Initial Entry Clearance. Reading the guidance should help. If the requirement conditions for extension are not fulfilled, there is not much one can do about it.

Augment your earnings. If you need to extend your stay, you must qualify for it. Simple!

Seriously, not trying to funny or anything but surely Tier 1 is for people who are earning 30,40k+, the key word been highly skilled therefore highly paid. They have criteria for earnings so that everybody earning 20k or less cant qualify. This is the reason why they have a new points system and have changed points for earnings.

Highly paid does not mean highly skilled and highly skilled does not mean highly paid (looks like a tongue twister  )

I remember the lower scale of the earnings to be around 17000 GBP during the 2008-09 period.

Your logic may be true, but it certainly is not the intention of the UK Govt. They want highly skilled, ie degree'd people who earn big salaries and pay lots of taxes. If you cant see this from the new point system well then I cant say much more. It is what it is....

It works like this. If the economy is in recession, you have more people looking out for work, then you scale the points such that less number of people can work their way in and compete in the market. Hence the scales are set higher. If the economy booms again (I am sure it will), the scales will be lowered to let more people in to cater to the demand.

Unfortunately Skill is abstract and can't be quantified. Hence it is assumed pay is measure of skill.
