Provisional certiicates Issue

I have Provisional certificate for MBA. But the word "Provisional certificate" is not written in the certificate. We'll have to wait till the next convocation for the original certificate. General guidance says they don't accept provisional certificate. In this circumstance, what can I do ? General guidance says instead of original certificate, we have to give an academic reference. What is academic reference? I do have a testimonial, will it work instead?
