Tier 1 Dependent (child born in UK) maintenance question

Post by AHobbs » Fri Aug 27, 2010 1:19 pm

Have been in the UK for 4 years as HSMP now Tier 1 with my wife as my dependent. We recently had a baby in July. My question is when applying for Tier 1 Dependent for our child do we need to show maintenance funds for just the child (£533) or all of us (£800+£533+£533)?

I called the UKBA help line (0870-606-7766) and was told that I only needed to show funds for the child (£533) since the application is for the child only.
Can anyone verify this?

Will your child be travelling outside the UK?

Yes, we have a trip planned in December which is why we need to get the dependent visa for him.

Its safer to show funds for all dependants and self - some people on this forum have done so in the past.

safer yes, but necessary? does anyone have direct experience on this? If a single dependent application is made and all other dependents and the main visa holder have already been granted visas, is it necessary to show maintenance funds for all or just the applicant? The guidance is ambiguous. In the example of the third child (#41) it does not state if the other members of the family have been granted visas at the time of the third child's application.
