work permit and "responsibility allowance"

Post by stewie » Wed Sep 22, 2010 11:04 pm

Hi,

I'm on old work permit for a few years now (working in IT).

Some time ago I've volunteered for a health and safety role within my sponsor organisation, to help with health and safety issues within our office. I didn't receive any money for that - just pure volunteering to perform health and safety inductions for new staff and monitor the office once a week - not more than half an hour a week in total. This duty is not documented, there are no terms and conditions and it's not a job by itself.

Some time later my employer decided to pay me and all other similar volunteers an allowance in addition to our salaries. It comes up as "responsibility allowance" in my payslip and is a symbolic amount of around £45 NET per month.

My question is: could this be a problem in the future, when I apply for ILR or for anything else for example? Should I ask my employer to stop paying me this allowance?

Many thanks.

You should probably check with the HR in your company directly.
Since you are on WP, they must be very aware of your situation and the conditions imposed on you by the Home Office.
So if you are not eligible for it, they would be able to stop the payment right away since they wouldn't want to be in breach of any employer responsibilities.
