Is MBA required?

Post by spfc » Fri Oct 01, 2010 2:13 am

Hi there, in the past the PBS calculator used to require at Qualification that we put at least Masters to proceed.

I just have bachelor's degree, am I eligible to get Tier 1 - General visa or I must have MBA?

Tks

Hi aruni4470, do you really think I posted this question before reading the guidance?

I am only asking this because it was mandatory to own an MBA certificate to apply, but I cannot find any information on when this has been removed from the prereqs.

I would really appreciate if someone could answer whether this is mandatory or not.

aruni4470, thank you anyway for links which I had already read.

An MBA is not a masters.

Use the PBS calculator, it gives points for a Bachelors. Rules were changed in April this year.

This was never the case. For some time qualification at masters degree level (not necessarily an MBA only) was mandatory to qualify for Tier 1 (General) but that restriction has been removed.

The rules applicable at the time of application should concern you, not what was applicable in the past (that may no longer exist). And the policy guidance explains the "current" requirements clearly.

regards

Nowhere in the guidance it is mentioned that you require an MBA to apply for tier 1 visa and if you have read those links and still posted this question, then mate you have to read them again... :)

In hindsight it is, but I think the OP was getting confused between an ordinary masters, and an MBA, with both being distinct in relation to Tier 1 points awarded.

MBA is also a masters degree and gives points equal to any other masters degrees. An MBA from one of the elite institutions around the world gives you 80 points when enrolled prior to 30 June 2008 and apply for tier 1 within 12 months of the course completion date. The list of these institutions are given the policy guidance.
