Past Earning - United Nations Staff

Post by replyami » Mon Apr 17, 2006 6:47 pm

Hi,

I am an United Nations Employee and I am just a 2% short from scoring the 25 points in the Past earning section of HSMP.

I have 2 questions to clarify regarding Past Earning:

I received Installation Allowance on my first assignment as a relocation allowance, this is only one-time payment.

I have a clear documentation regarding Salary, Installation Allowance etc in my job offer letter, salary slips and bank statements.

Question1: Whether Installation Allowance will be taken into consideration as part of gross earnings.

Question2: UN employees do not need to pay tax, Hence all my salary is Net. So how do I show my Gross income?
Is there any difference in Past earning calculation for this category.

thanks in Advance
Ami

If the Installation Allowance was paid within the last 12 months, then it should qualify as part of your earnings.

Since you're exempted from tax, your net equals your gross.

No difference in past earning calculation; simply include documentation iro tax exemption.

Hi

I am myself from UN, if you got installation allownance within last 12 months it would count.
Moreover your medical alloances would also count.
For Tax, you must get a tax exemption certficate from your accounts department. It would be helpful

Question again:
All my "pay slips" have a heading "Salary statement" but Installation Allowance heading is "Settlement Advice".

And Description:
Installation Allwance for USD XXX.XX

Is "Settlement Advice" considered as payslip?

thanks

Settlement Advice is not salary slip but it will be considered as Bonus...therefore it will count towards your income.

And I dont know about UN but I had a document in WHO(World Health Organization) where they stated that Installation Allowance is considered as income. But I did not attach that with my application as I came to know from HSMP guidance that bonus or any other benefits will count as income.

If anyone gets house rent + Car + mobile etc... with salary as benefits he can add those to his income.

But in your case it quite obvious, you can count it, , if you have email address i can send you the my income summary sample.

Thanks Rex.

Your information is very helpful.

I too work for WHO.
The documents Offer letter, Salary statement etc issued by WHO look very simple (i.e printed on plain paper white and black).

Are these sufficient or needs some kind of attestation.

I would verymuch appreciate for your kindness.
Please send me as much information to my email id "replyami@yahoo.com"

Hi

You also need a certificate from your accounts department stating your job period with your gross salary and a letter stating that your job is a graduate level job and requires a degree in relevant field.

and ofcourse a tax exemption certificate.

I will mail you my sample income statement.
