A bit of both. Don't give too many details. Just state the dates, how you met, and that the British partner supports the application. Nothing more needs to be said and it never hurts to mention that you're in love.
I tell it like it is.

Just out of interest why do you say not to give too many details. I have written for my fiances application a very detailed account - is this not needed? Has been looked at by two immigration specialists who say it is fine.

Well I've seen peoples' letters contain sexual details and other things that are irrelevant and just over the top. The ECO's don't want to read long letters with gross detail or even just too much detail because it doesn't matter. The letter is to show the sponser's support, not to tell an epic love story since Tristan and Isolde.
I tell it like it is.
