It has got a chip in it. But, it's smaller in size. Currently it contains my photograph and informations that appears on the passport. However, in future they'll include iris/finderprint data etc.

Also, did they get your fingerprints and eye scan stuff?... cause that's what is meant to be in the biometric ppts.

Mine was normal post, second-class postage, white envelope with no markings other than a return address of PO Box 306 L2 0QN.

Looks very plain. Don't toss it in the bin by mistake!

Mine was the same(normal A5 brown envelope) but funnily, the address was hand-written and it had the wrong Postcode , so it went back to Liverpool and they send it back , again with the wrong post code but this time it arrived - 2 weeks late.

So I received the letter regarding the Ceremony quite quickly(and I thought this was the approval letter too) but when I received my actual approval letter 2 weeks after the ceremony one, I realised they had goofed up.

Are you waiting for your Approval letter too ?

Thanks for the replies...

We are waiting for my wife's approval letter. Had a recorded letter delivery card in post yesterday, so was wondering if that was it. Will have to go to the depot tomorrow to pick it up.

But from the posts it seems it's probably something else.

Did you enclose a prepaid Special Delivery envelope for the return of the documents? If so, it might be that.

Also, if you have a note of the tracking number of that Special Delivery envelope, using the facility at www.royalmail.co.uk to track its progress. It will be clear from the screen whether the envelope is in the postal system or not.

Well, as it turns out, the recorded delivery was an ack letter from IND... the one with the character enquiries text... and signed by CT1; although we did not enclose any recorded delivery envelopes.

So... so far we have had two ack letters, one for receipt of documents and the other about the character enquiries.

By the way, the application was sent in on the 1st March06.

A quick update. My but it's quiet in here these days?

I went for the ceremony this morning, in Glasgow. Very quick, perhaps ten minutes - took me far longer to find parking!

The welcome pack included a passport application form, a nice touch!

Cheers all.

Yes, it has been quiet in here. I'll post my citizenship ceremony update...

Went for mine 17 April at Kensington Town Hall. They sure know how to welcome new citizens there. About 20 of us became citizens and it was rather festive, including a speech by a former mayor of the borough and tea and coffee afterwards in the mayor's chambers.

They gave us our certificates in a frame suitable for mounting and had a photographer on hand to document the whole thing.

It was all very nice, fairly formal, and really put a lump in my throat. In fact, as strange as it sounds, becoming a BC has really made me feel differently about this country, my place in the world, and even the monarchy. I wanted BC mainly because it opened up all of Europe to my family, but now that I have it I feel much more attached to the UK.

Another interesting part of the ceremony was listening to new citizens struggle to repeat the oath. Of the 20 of us, at least half had a very difficult time repeating a few words of English. It was an interesting reminder that being able to take a written Life in the UK test really says very little about one's ability to speak a language. I wonder if the written test will at some point be replaced by an interview.

A few days after my ceremony I applied for a passport using the one-week service. Received the pp on a Saturday -- two working days after applying!

I have to admit I love the UK passport. It's much more ornate than my US passport. My favourite part is the front cover, where it says, "...Her Britainic Majesty requests and requires..."

I will post my timeline below but will also give you some feedback on my NCS experience.

I needed a booking at short notice (simply to get the whole thing out the way). Phoned around on Tuesday 4 April. Pretty much all NCS centres in London were booked up. In fact Wandsworth (closest to me) stopped taking bookings as they have already booked so far ahead. My luck changed when I got in touch with the Walthamstow NCS office. They could book me in on 7 April (3 days after the phone call!). Upon arrival I waited in the seating area and the officer told me there would be a 10 minute delay as they were finishing off ceremonies. I noticed several people arrive and escorted to the cermony room (naturally they were all smiles).

They invited me to a private office and 2 people checked my documents. There were 3 passports to copy (1 application) so I had a bit of time to chat to them. They ask each person to phone / email them once they receive confirmation of approval. Thishelps them track the response rate on applications. The fastest they told me was 5 days and some are still pending after 9 months. The average they tell me is about 3 months but "perhaps you are lucky".

Here is the timeline:
NCS or Postal : NCS Walthamstow
Date of submission or posting : April 7, 2006
CRITERIA - 5 years (4 Work Permit and 1 ILR)
Date of debit of debit/credit card : April 12 2006
Date of receipt of acknowledgement : April 21 2006 (letter dated April 12 2006)
Date of receipt of approval:
Date of Ceremony
Date of appln. for passport
Method used
Date of Receipt

Will keep you updated as things progress.

Hi eeckard. Yeah they told me 3 months too, but almost all the recent applications for which timelines are posted here were decided in 2-3 weeks.

Good luck, and keep us informed!

Here is my updated time line. We applied together with my wife as "married couple living at the same address".

Application=NCS (Southwark)
Date of submission or posting 17/02/2006
CRITERIA - 5 yr stay (4 + 1 yr ILR)
Date of debit of cheque = 21/02/2006
Date of receipt of acknowledgement = 25/02/2006
Date of approval = 06/04/2006
Date of receipt of approval = Sometime between 13/04 to 22/04. As we were on holiday, I don't know the exact date. It was at the bottom of the pile of mails so I'm guessing that it was nearer to 13/04 :).

The approval letter said that we should contact Weybridge Citizenship Service as we live in Surrey. The earliest date for a group ceremony was 31 May in Kingston, so I asked for a private ceremony in Guildford and they were able to arrange it for next Wednesday (03/05) for £75 total for both of us.

Congrats! Did u receive ur test result back and other docs before ur approval letter? i have read on this forum that they usually send those back before approval but not sure if that is across board...

I sent mine 2 weeks after urs and my card was debited the next day as well and received the acknowledgment around ur own timeline so im hoping mine can be as quick as urs :-)

Jaduu - they dont send back your Life-In-The-UK test certificate, they didnt return mine anyway.

You should expect to have all your other supporting documents returned though, obv.

Good luck!
