Thank you kenfrapin, PaperPusher and ElenaW for your prompt replies and pieces of advice. It is actually a longer story than I have tried to tell here.....................I have considered most of those lines of action you kindly suggested. I thought of returning home but I quickly shelved it because, those who sent me money from home, did so because they knew that I am not the sort of person who would "cry wolf, wolf" when there was no need to do so. Put another way, they knew I was in dire financial straits for me to request for money from home and that as soon as I got better, that I was going to pay back asap. It wasn`t that my family is well-off etc. As a matter of fact, I came here partly to improve my lot and indirectly that of the family.
I have tried some of these churches that are every where but got no help. Most were more interested in collecting tithes from members etc. However, some individuals have helped and by God`s grace, I hope to pay them back the money loaned asap.
On the issue of ILR / British citizenship, I think having endured 12 years, it is in my own interest to try and qualify. I say this because I was discriminated against in my highly skilled profession ( on account of my age / being a non -EU citizen ), and so, I couldn`t get my professional job etc. When I obtain ILR / British citizenship, those discriminatory practices will no longer have any effect upon me. Besides, I can then register with the SIA and start working as a security officer at least and earn some money.( I already have the certificate as I said in my second post )
Back home, my professional colleagues have been on strike over non payment of salaries etc for over a month and also there is high insecurity to life and property, with kidnapping of people for ransoms running into millions of pounds very rampant. My take on the home sitation is that if I panic and return home, those kidnappers might think I came home with loads of money and might see me as a target etc. I wouldn`t want to put my family in such a difficult postion.
Thank you.
