English test required if you have passed the KoL?

Post by walker101 » Wed Nov 24, 2010 10:06 pm

Hello All,

Does taking the KoL test mean you don't have to do the new English test?

Background.
My wife and I have been married for 5 years living outside of the UK. I am a British citizen by birth and my wife is a foreign national. We were looking to pass the KoL test and then apply for Indefinite Leave to Enter.

However, I have just seen the requirement for he new English test and was wondering does she need to pass that too. I don't think that she would have any problems passing it, it's just whether I need to organise another test for her to take and logistically it may not be able to book it at short notice.

I would be grateful for any clarification.

Thanks.

If you aren't living in one of the exempt countries on the list, then your wife will need to take the pre-entry English test as well as KOL. You're aware that the KOL test can only be taken in the UK?
