Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) is actually Replacing the visa letter, the Confirmation of Acceptance for studies is a unique reference number which is assigned to a student by their school or college using the new sponsorship management system. Rather than present an original visa letter with their applications, under this new tier 4 rule students will have to submit their confirmation of acceptance for studies reference number, avoiding the expense of having documents sent secure mail across the world.

From February, after a prospective student is accepted into a course at any UK college/ University and the relevant fees/deposit and other requirements have been met, instead of sending a paper based visa letter to the student, the college office will enter all their admission details on an on-line database provided to them by UKBA. The system in return will generate a reference number unique to this student. This unique reference number is called CAS..
The University/College then sends this unique reference number called CAS to the concerned student.

Confirmation Of Acceptance (CAS) For Studies will replace visa letters from February 2010. Confirmation of acceptance is actually an electronic number, to allow you to apply for a student visa. This System will be called the Sponsorship Management System.

Once the Sponsorship Management System is implemented, then approved education providers will start issuing Confirmation of Acceptance For Studies which will replace visa letters. This electronic reference number (CAS) will contain all the same information that student currently receive from his/her education provider in the form of visa letter.

There will be a charge of £10 for each confirmation of acceptance for studies issued – charged by the UK Border Agency to schools and colleges – with the majority of students likely to have to cover this cost themselves. Only schools and colleges that appear on the UK Border Agency Tier 4 Register of Sponsors will have access to the sponsorship management system, and therefore issue a confirmation of acceptance for studies.

A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies will only be valid for 6 months, therefore, if you have already accepted your unconditional offer please do not be concerned that you have not as yet received your CAS as Universities or colleges will not be issuing CAS for students commencing their studies in October 2010 until April 2010 at the earliest.
