Tricky UK citizenship / VISA question

Post by jameswhl » Tue Dec 07, 2010 4:21 am

Hi all, I'm wondering if someone can help. My dad was born in Rhodesia in September 1950. His parents were both born in the UK. He had or has a British passport. I was born in New Zealand in 1984.

Do I qualify for a British passport through my dad? (My mum is a kiwi). Or am I restricted to an ancestry visa?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

James

Your father is a British citizen by descent. For this reason, he is not capable of transmitting British citizenship to you, his child born outside the UK.

Unless your father was in the UK crown, or other applicable, service when you were born.
