12,900 citizenship forms ruled invalid
http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ire ... 25877.html

ALMOST HALF the 26,100 people who applied for Irish citizenship in the 12 months to June 30th, 2010, have had their applications forms sent back because they didn’t fill them in correctly.

New figures released by the Department of Justice yesterday show its citizenship division is struggling to cope with a deluge of applications, with average processing times now 26 months.

A note on the citizenship division’s website warns applicants that 10 per cent of all its resources are wasted on assessing poor-quality applications, which have to be returned. The main reasons are: a failure to provide certified copies of documents (39 per cent); statutory declarations not completed correctly (25 per cent); affidavits needed (15 per cent); supporting documentation needed (10 per cent); name discrepancies between form and certificates of birth and marriage (5 per cent); and forms being incomplete or altered with correction fluid.

In an answer to a parliamentary question from Fine Gael TD Alan Shatter, Minister for Justice Dermot Ahern revealed 12,900 invalid applications were sent back in the year to June 2010. Some 6,200 valid applications were deemed ineligible as the applicant did not meet statutory requirements. Some 5,700 valid applications were approved and 1,400 refused.

“The main negative factors contributing to refusal of naturalisation are where I cannot be satisfied that applicants are of good character and/or have not demonstrated that they are in a position to support themselves and their dependants into the future,â€

I think all the marys and johns in the citizenship section are busy doing x-mas shopping. There won't be any ball rolling in this department until Mid January...when the public servants from this department comes back from their well "earned" and well "deserved" holidays.

Yes: that’s true the business is as usual but seems this business is also affected by global crunch. So business is AS USUAL but it’s dead slow and almost ready for liquidation.

Latan,
I like your attitude and your Optimism, from where you got those in this current climate.
I applied on July 2009 and they did not even ask for further documents, it means at least another 1 to 1.5 year waitting.
fair play man.
regards,
Tarek
peace on you

...hi, i just had a look at the INIS web-site and there it states that they are commencing further processing of applications received in early 2009 !! So it seems that the wheel is turning...slowly but it is turning. Also i met a Brazilian-national who told me the Citizenship-section "lost" his application incl. the supporting documentation which he sent by registered mail.....and he applied mid-2008 !! He wasn't informed about re-applying....sounds strange....

Are you sure about that? I've applied in june 2008, and sent my additional docs in August 2010. But no word since.

Don't believe 2009 applicants are getting approvals.

Obanta2009 wrote:I am sorry to bust the myth seen on this board that if you are informed on the phone by INIS that your application is been prepared for the minister results in approval "WRONG". My personal experience is that I still got refused after been informed of same.

Another experience is not all law firms know about immigration. Some will charge you big bucks when they are not even familiar with immigration laws. Size and swanky office does not matter. My experience is with a big law firm behind Burlington hotel in dublin 4 eventually it was a small law firm that resolved my issue in a few days the same issue that the big law firm told me will take a long time, might be a thorny issue and asked for a deposit of €2000. The effective and efficient law firm that knows its onions is a small law firm one lawyer running the show but he had to hand over the firm recently due to issue with the legal council. Note not the the one that spent client money. Charge by small law firm €100
May be you are right BUT as long as you meet all the criteria set by DoJ i.e. commit to living in Ireland, don't come to the adverse attention of LAW, don't become financial burden on the State etc. I don't see any reason for refusal.

Also, I personally don't see any point in filing your application through a law firm/solicitor unless you don't know how to fill out the form or you think that your case might be rejected. Its a common knowledge that Law firms/Solicitors are just rip off and DoJ doesn't care a bit if your application comes directly or through a lawyer, they'll always take their time and make decisions on individual basis.

Congratulation "asrpb". I was right in telling you that you were already approved...:)- Ahahahahaha And 5 weeks from the 16/11/2010. We have learned to know how things work in INIS.

Note: Where are you based (ie. Dublin, Cork ?)....Waiting till the 25/01/2011 for the judge is way too long....in my view. You need your passport quick...:)-
