Changing passport containing indefinate leave to remain visa

Hi
Not been on nhere for a while as we were all settled but the wifes passport expires next year and she can not renew here without being in employment. She is Ukrainian and they wont renew it without some documents from an employer.

Now if she goes back and renews can she then return to Britain with her new passport and the old passport containing the visa or will she have to go to the embassy and get it transfered before she can fly back?

Embassy is in Kiev and she will be visiting her parents near Odessa so it would be hassle to get there.
