How come she confirmed that you got ILR before you have paid the application fees ? I think first thing they do after security check is take the application fees .....brummie wrote:First of all I would like to thank this forum and all the members for their advice and support.
My application was for myself(main applicant) on the basis of the good old 5yr.work permit and my wife(dependant)
We booked our appointment online (approx a month in advance).
The appointment was for 10am. We reached at about 9.15 am.
As soon as we entered the office, the gentleman at the entrance counter asked of my form, he checked to make sure it’s the right application form and that it is ‘uptodate’. He then gave us a token number and asked us to switch off our phones.
We then went thru the security checks and we were directed to the waiting area and wait for the token number to be called out.
Our number was called out at 10.15 am and we were asked to go to one of the counters. The lady was very friendly which was good, because we were very nervous.
She asked us for the following doucuments.
1. Both our Passports
2. application form.
3. marriage certificate(very important if you are including your
spouse)
4. both our life In the uk test pass certificates
5. letter from the employer
6. last 3 salary slips
That’s it!!!!! I was like what???????????? I had carried 3 bag loads of documents.
I had just one employer so my case was pretty straight forward I guess. Anyways…
She done some checks and 20 mins later she told us everything was in order and that we had got the ILR.
We were directed to the payments counter I payed debit card and had to enter my chip n pin number just like your regular payments. I got 2 receipts. One from ukba and the other was the debit card payment receipt.
We were asked to come back to the office after 1.5 – 2hrs.
The slowest 2 hrs of my entire life I tell you.
We went to the nearby shopping centre for a quick bite. Solihull town center had a lovely Christmasy feel to it.
2 hrs later we went back, and they told us that it would take futher 1hr.
I did not mind waiting. I had waited for 6 long years, a couple of hours was nothing compared to it.
Well, our same token number was called out and we got our passports with our ILR stamp on it. WOW
All those crazy long working hours, travelling in the snow and rain, waking up at 4 am on those cold and dark wintry mornings for my morning shifts, working most weekends and festivals and living away from my family in Mumbai finally paid off.
Absolute BLISS!!! I felt the same way WILL SMITH felt at the end of the film ‘Pursuit of happiness’
The staff at the Solihull branch were very friendly, which helps to calm the nerves.
All in all a very good and memorable experience.
Best Christmas gift ever!!!!
And all the very best to all you future applicants, my prayers and wishes are with you all!!!!
Congratulations!!!1brummie wrote:answering some of your questions.
- there is ample of parking next door at the john lewis and touchwood shopping centre carpark.all the very best sally.
- yes, marriage certificate was asked by the lady but i donot know if it is mandatory or not. it is a good idea to carry it.
- p60's were not asked. i still carried it.
- a lot has changed in the past few months. they now check your form first and then take the fees. it is good thing because if your application form and documents are not complete then you dont loose the money.

For applicants with children, are the birth certificates really necessary since the passports have been forwarded?brummie wrote:hey sally12345,sally12345 wrote:arrh thanks a lot Brummie I dont feel that scared just cant wait untill the 4th Jan a day before my daugthers birthday I pray its good news... xxx
