Most bizarre us discussing document returns and passports. Firstly my wife called me from home saying my supporting documents arrived home safely, so that makes it 1 week exactly. It says the new british passport will arive shortly.

So perhaps you get you documents back in time. Let me know how it goes.

So I made it at last. My final timeline.

Here is the updated timeline:
NCS or Postal : NCS Walthamstow
Date of submission or posting : April 7, 2006
CRITERIA - 5 years (4 Work Permit and 1 ILR)
Date of debit of debit/credit card : April 12 2006
Date of receipt of acknowledgement : April 21 2006 (letter dated April 12 2006)
Date of receipt of approval: 5 May 2006 (letter dated 26 April 2006)
Date of Ceremony: 10 May 2006
Date of appln. for passport: 10 May 2006
Method used: Post Office check and send
Date of Receipt: 20 May 2006

After 9 years in the UK on working holiday visas, visitor visas, TWES, WP and ILR, it sure feels good having this maroon marvel in my hands. Thanks to the crew here for all the advice and help. I will stick around this forum, as now I have to do it all over again for my wife (BC application).

Bonzoman.

Hmmm.. so your passport was also simply pushed thru your letterbox. Not much point paying the extra for secure delivery option if theyre gonna do that anyway.

Nice one tho, it arrived in time for your trip even. Congrats!

Time Lag between Naturalisation Ceremony and Passport App

Post by TintinHerge » Mon Jun 05, 2006 10:02 pm

Hi All

I had my Nat Ceremony in early April and have been postponing applying for the British Passport, for one reason or the other. Its all done now and I will be in the PostOffice sometime this week to apply finally.

Do you think there will be a problem as there is a gap of 2 months between then and now ? Is there a time limit I have to apply for a passport after I get my Naturisation certificate?

Thanks
Tintin

Don't understand, you had you ceremony and are postponing applying for British Citizenship? Sounds like you already have it if you have been to your ceremony?

My mistake - it should read "postponing applying for British Passport".

Balaplus, that is great news .... using NCS really can speed up the process!

It looks like NCS-submitted applications are getting back to where they were prior to the October 2005 deluge of applications ... people trying to beat the rush ahead of the introduction of the Citizenship Test last November.

I was discussing this with some of my friends who have been through the NCs route. We were wondering if aspects like having a mortgage make a difference to decision making process (Do they do credit referencing?)

Although getting passport in 3 days seems to be the norm for fast track applications, I was lucky to get a ceremony slot in short time due to cancellation.

balaplus, I doubt the Home Office would ever admit to it but clearly some applications are processed much faster than others (even like-for-like NCS applications)

Given the ease with which practically ALL your details can be quickly brought up on a computer screen nowadays, and we know that the Home Office uses credit checking services like Experian and Equifax, I would think that a caseworker would get a warmer feeling about an applicant that appears to be a 'solid citizen' - and seeing a mortgage would certainly contribute to that.

Hi Guys,

Do character checks really take a few months? or is that something they say?

Anastasia, character checks sure do extend the waiting period but the length varies. Other posts in this thread show that this can be anything from a few weeks to several months.

The reasons why some applications draw a character check and some not seem vague; my guess is it's random, and just bad luck for those who get delayed by them.

The good news is that it doesnt usually mean there's any problem - as far as I know everyone who's said here that they got chosen for a character check has posted later and said their application was approved.

thanks!

And yes it sucks to be picked at random for a character check.
