Tier-1 Extension

Hi,
I have got (HSMP) Tier 1 Visa in May 2009, so I have got visa (Leave to remain) till May 2012, so I was under assumption that I will get an extension in may 2012, but due to change in Visa Policies, it will be almost impossible for general public to obtain a Tier 1 Visa. I just wanted to know will that effect Tier -1 extensions as well. Please note that I am staying within UK.
