Hi,

I'm new here and had a question about the CoS salary thresholds. When they say that the panel awarded, for example in January, CoS to jobs of 36k and above, does this mean they were able to satisfy most of the valid requests for above 36k jobs, or does it mean they only considered these and gave it to a small number?

I'm salary band A, but non shortage - no transitional arrangements, it's my first job through a milkround scheme.

im 90% sure it means all those applicants (in last months or so) who are earning 36k were awarded COS.

this 36k is artificial limit applied by ukba e.g

lets say UKBA received 500 apps. 450 of those apps were successful. but, they only had say,200, COS available to issue in January. so, by setting the limit to 36k, they were able to reduce the number of "successfull" applications from 450 to 200!

atleast thats my understanding...

can anyone back me up?

cheers

Thanks for the input! I also had this understanding but wasn't sure whether the artificial limit was set as a clearing line or whether it was a threshold just to be considered. Thanks!

Do you know what the system is like for applications for post-April start dates? the ukba site says that this additional allocation request is only for jobs starting before or on 31 march

yea... that implies... that new (unannounced) rules will come into play in April.

it doesnt mean, there will be no need to apply for COS after march!

Yeah, of course....but what happens to people who start on 1 April? I mean surely they need to apply for CoS before that and how is that possible without knowing the new system?

UKBA wants all those applying on or after 1 April to apply under new rules...

thats their rationale

cheers

I fully understand that. But my question isn't about their rationale.

My future employer has applied for a CoS for me with a start date of 1 April 2011. So this should be under the "new rules." But how could they have applied if the new rules haven't been declared?

well your employer should have given start date of 31st March or something....but not 1st April...

i dont know how strict ukba will be about it....but UKBA had to set the deadline cuz this interim limit wont last forever and 1 April was the date they agreed upon, as a cutt off point from interim limit...

:?:

I don't really get that line of reasoning. I mean what if I were to start on 15th April? Are you suggesting that right now only people starting on 31 March and before should be applying for CoS?

April's only two months away, so I'm sure there should be a system in place for getting a CoS out of the 2011-12 limits.
