Hi

I am working with alcatel belgium on a work permit basis
and have a valid residence card for one year.
My schengen D category visa has expired.
This entitles me to tourism in schengen states.

However, I need to go to Alcatel france for four weeks testing work
in software on site ( in france).

do i need a visa or work permit to work there??

thanks a ton in advance

Visa

Hello,

Just like you, I am based in Belgium with a work permit. On occasions if I need to travel to other countries for business purposes, but when I do, the fact remains that I will continue to remain on my Belgian employers payroll and maintain my main residence in Belgium. Therefore I generally do not need a visa for most countries (I am a Canadian national) and if I do need one (for some non-EU countries), I simply get a business visa.

In your case, it would depend on your nationality, but the fact that you do have a Belgian residence permit I doubt that you would require a visa for another schengen state, for a short business visit. Mind you if you are travelling for business in a non-Schengen EU state like the UK, I would then think you would require a visa.

If your residence permit is still valid, you do not need any visa to go to France for a stay of less than three months.

Of course, it goes without saying that your Belgian RP should be valid for more than three months.
