Re-entering the UK on a different passport (US/CAN)

Post by dmiller11 » Tue Jan 18, 2011 3:34 pm

Can I use my dual passports?

I have been in the UK on a Tier 4 Student visa for the past year and some months. It expires on Jan 21 (3 days from today) and is listed in my US passport.

Fortunately, I am leaving the country on the 21st to travel to a country in the Schengen area, but intend to return to the UK a few days later. If I use my Canadian passport to re-enter the country (which generally allows me 3 months as a tourist), will that work?

I will be leaving the UK after only a month or two more, I just need more time to finish things up properly (job, accounts, packing, etc.).

Is this acceptable? And if not, then what are the chances that anyone will notice?

If you have any links about the matter, please share!

Non-visa nationals wrote:Although non-visa nationals do not normally need visit visas, they are not guaranteed entry into the UK. Visitors must satisfy a UK Border Agency officer that they meet certain visitor requirements and may need to show the officer certain documents in support of their request to enter the UK. Information about visitor requirements and documents can be found on the UK Border Agency website.

i think by using your Canadian passport they might think you are trying to be deceptive. Why not use your US passport since US citizens are also non-visa nationals?
