International Students in Canada

Post by indiaone » Sun May 28, 2006 1:20 am

Hello Moderators,

Wanted to clearify following doubts about International Students studying in Canada:

1) Are Int. Students allowed to work out side campus especially in Ontario.
If Yes, than do they have to apply for SIN or anything else to work outside Campus. Is there any procedure to apply for the same.
Also, how many hours Int. students can work outside Campus considering the fact that he is also working/not working within Campus.

2) For how long a Int. Student can stay in Canada after completing studies.

3)Do Int. Students start working before start of the course. Eg: if course is starting in Sep, can he practically be working in Aug.

4)Do Int. Students have restrictions on working hours during holidays including Saturdays and Sundays.

I would be obliged if someone can take out time and answers these.

Hi

You must support yourself as international student, and must prove you have enough funds to do so. However, you can always work on campus, and:

Off Campus: you can work provided your university is listed with immigration as a recognized institution. You can work up to 20 hours per week during your full time classes. You can also work full time during school breaks, summer.

You must apply for a work permit BEFORE starting to work. And Yes you can apply for a Social Insurance Normal. Just follow the process, fiil the forms and wait for the permit and SIN number. Ypur school can help you with the process.

Post Graduation: generally you can work one year if you graduated from a 4-year program.
