Waiting for Offer Letter

Post by tsp » Wed Jan 26, 2011 3:15 pm

I have done the final interview and got call from the consulatant that, employer would like to make an offer and he doesnot know any details about the offer yet.

Just sent an email to consulatant to know the progress.

As all know, waiting is the painful thing. Just would like to know, normally whats the timeline to get the offer. When is the reasonable time, i can expect it or hear anything from employer/consultant.

Regards

Hi tsp,

May I ask you in which field have you got the job offer? Where are you located currently?

I just got my tier 1 visa and trying to understand on the best approach to the job market there. I am in India.

Hi tsp,

Simple answer is "It depends". I dont think anyone can give a concrete answer for this (say, 1 week or 2 weeks or a month you will get the offer).

Just to let you know about similar situations I faced. I cleared an interview by 1st weeek of Dec 2010 and I got the offer January 14th 2011. Perhaps, I got a phone call from the consultant a week after I cleared the interview that the employer cannot release an offer letter in the year 2010 (might be the quoto is finished for the year 2010, but not certainly because of christmas holidays). and they released by Jan 14th

Another company where i was employed earlier, It always takes 1 month to release the offer due to the approval levels. It should get approved from 13 higher authorities.

Another bitter fact i learnt is, Sometimes employers keep the selected candidates in the backup. Suppose, an offer letter released to an applicant didn't join the company then they release the offer for the 2nd selected candidate in the Q.

Like this each and every company have their own policies and procedures. I am not saying it will be same in your case. There could be something different. But the consultant must have an answer for it.

If I were you, then I will

1) Be patient. I know its a pain but we have to take it.
2) Not rely in this job offer alone till you receive it (and you JOIN the company) anything could happen.
3) Keep trying for other roles and interviews.

Wish you a good Luck.

Regards,
Aani

Everyone here has explained it well and its also quite well known that the biggest problem with UK's recruitment process is the timeline.
On average, counting factors like those described above and others, the total time from first interview with the company and final offer is about 6 to 12 weeks. This does not include the initial call with any Consultant/Agent and the final agreement on start date.

I have gone to many interviews where it has easily take 2 months from the first telephonic interview to the final offer being made, its a different story I did not accept the offers else it would have been another 4 weeks on top to start with the companies.

It does test your patience a lot but stay calm and dont keep calling/emailing the agent as you dont want that guy to get irritated with you - its a real test of your patience but dont completely depend on this one offer, dont totally believe the agent coz they say anything to keep you from trying elsewhere and finally, if you want to, continue attending interviews and see how it goes - you never know but there may be a MUCH better role just round the corner for you :-)
