I think we'll be ok (those of us who are already in the country). I can see the lawsuits now if they change the rules retrospectively. I just wonder what they mean though and how they are going to do it. Surely everyone (Tier 1 and 2) are meant to be temporary at first. Maybe they mean the ICT and really don't understand that it has already been closed as a route to settlement. Or, maybe they mean doing away with switching while IN the country.
Perhaps they want us to stay with our job for the whole five years and if we change, the clock sets back.

Regarding settlement, I think this is quite interesting

Quote
Therefore, I intend to consult on all routes to settlement in the Spring.

I am due for ILR in May 2011. If he is saying that there will be consultation in SPRING, does that mean that it will be few weeks after the consultation, new rules will come out?

I am disappointed with his speech. I mean what is the point of making a speech if you can’t come up with new ideas or new data??

Its same old rhetoric, same old distorted data and their interpretation.
It’s about time they grow up.

Tall Funky,

I think it is very clear. This speech was particularly related to Student category.

And I think for ILR he made it very clear that there will be consultation in spring.

Yes Vipul and that's exactly my point, why to deliver a speech if you got nothing new to say!!!

@ Tall Funky
Earlier they said they are going to change ILR rules from april 2011..
But now in todays speech he is saying the consultation will be in spring..
Hope by Gods grace it will take some time for new rules to be implemented after Spring..

@Vipul
Even I'm due for PR in May 2011.. Hope new rules will not be implemented before that by God's grace...

fingers crossed.

i think the consultation is for 90 days after which they decide/declare the rules that follow the consultation.

officillay spring starts 1st of march. so if the consultation begins on the first day, it will end on 31st May. if this is the case, I am sorted.
