Job situation in London, UK

Post by dhruv » Fri Feb 04, 2011 10:25 am

Hi Guys

My tier 1 started on Jan 23. Now I plan to leave my current job and migrate to London.

Do you think it is better to move by end Feb or may be in May or June? When do you think job market is better? I know that it is not the best in the world now for IT guys.

I work in the field of Carbon and investments, so wanted to know the situation in general.

Regards
Dhruv

Hi,

I suggest you check the careers sections for the major energy and carbons trading firms for possible vacancies as well as the websites for specialist recruiters. As far as I know, a lot of financial insititutions are placing vacancy ads and inducting people into entry level grad recruitment programs however yours is a specialized sub-set of the kind of firms that operate in the City so you will probably need to do some digging.

Additionally having a good qualification like CFA or CAIA would be pretty helpful in opening doors for you. My advice is to come now and get an early head start on the job search.

Regards,
Mesam.

Thanks Mesam. Will definitely follow your suggestions.

Does anyone know about the flow of jobs respective to a Season or a month? for example, is the volume of jobs better in Feb than March?

Ridiculous question but still this has been answered a million times on the forum - by me and those much better than me. You need to get hold of what you want to do and be ready to face the odds because no matter how we answer your question, its you who has to come to here and go job hunting - so please do a little more research before asking such a question! We are not recruiters to know the 'Season' when its best to apply, we only know of common trends but even against that trend, exceptional candidates with required skills get jobs every single day!!!

WOW! That was one hedonistic response by KP.

It was of NO HELP AT ALL. I asked for a general opinion and experience of individuals who got hired recently. FYI, trends keep changing on a monthly or quarterly basis and it is GOOD to keep yourself informed.

Mods,

Please lock or delete this thread. It has served no purpose

Sorry dhruv, its you who seems to not understand your own question
When you ask for a TREND from season to season or month to month you are asking for historic data - all of which has been answered so many times that no one will bother answering you any more.

Further a question as silly as that deserves no answer - and you want answers from those who recently got hired??? They too have posted excellent updates on how they went about, what they felt during that time including the TRENDS of when they felt there were more opportunities

So, for you to come trotting along asking quite a vague question, just do your research first rather than waiting to be spoon fed the answer - try being a little more proactive coz it will help you during your job hunt as well :-)
