Moonlighting.

Post by Biggie » Fri Jun 02, 2006 5:14 pm

Hello,

Could anyone give advice on moonlighting on a work permit? I believe its allowed as long as it does not conflict with the work permit? Is there documentary evidence confirming this?

Thanks,

Biggie

It is very simple to understand.
Worpermit relates to ONE employment under ONE employer at given ONE time.

so, if you 'moonilight', obviously there is multiplicity which means, it will be an unauthorised thing that you are doing.

However, you could have multiple work permits at one time., which allows you to work under all the employers mentioned in your permits. If moonlight period is covered for the employer under a permit , then you are fine.

Same is applicable to self-employment, because, your visa status given under the workpermit doesn't permit.

Biggie, it is not nearly as simple as vin123 suggests. Have a look at this webpage and in particular read the section headed :-
15.Can an overseas national do supplementary work?
But do note all the conditions and limitations mentioned in that section.

Hi

Supplementary work is possible providing that

a) It is not work on a bodyshop / recruitment agency contract

b) You are still working 'full time' (certainly over 30hrs/week, probably over 35-40 if that is what was put on the application when the permit was initially granted) for the sponsor of your permit.

I hope this helps
