SWITCHING FROM STUDENT VISA TO TIER 2 GENERAL

Post by Capela » Sun Feb 06, 2011 11:07 pm

Hi all!!,
I am on student visa.I am employed and work 20hrs a week, my employer is already certified sponsor (grade A) and willing to sponsor me for tier 2 work permit. My salary range is £22.000 pro rata per annum.
I have been employed for the past 7 months, the job was advertised on job centreplus and i attended the interview and was selected. The position is service Admin which is not listed on the shortage occupation list.

Can i qualify to apply for Tier 2 general considering my situation.
What will be the pros & cons?
Please help.

i seem to have read somewhere(UKBA website) that contract must be atleast 30 hours per week and.... i dont think you are allowed to pro-rate your earnings.

@ Arsenal49 can you show me a link from the UKBA website stating that atleast contract must have been 30hrs, considering the fact that student's are not allowed to work more than 20hrs per week and also pro rata earnings.

well, as far as tier 2 is concerned, its irrelevant what you are doing currently, (ok thats not entirely true but based on the info you provided, consider this statement to be true...)

is your employer happy to give you atleast 30 hour per week contract once you finish your studies?
