Thsi is a general query, and only if you have time. Thanks.
1. Who does NOT need to have a Biometric Residence Permit (..previously known as Identity Cards for Foreign Nationals...)
in the UK nowadays? (outside the typical visa-exempt tourist staying <6 months).
The UK Border Agency website sets out when you need to have a Biometric Residence Permit...see here... http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/while ... -need-brp/# ("Who needs to apply for a biometric residence permit?")
...
and when you don't... quote...>>
"You do not need to apply for a biometric residence permit if you are:
a foreign national applying to extend your stay *in an immigration category not listed above*- instead you will receive a new vignette (sticker) in your passport; or
a foreign national applying for permission to settle in the UK; or
a national of a country in the European Economic Area (including the UK) or Switzerland."
What are these remaining categories that are being referred to (when thay say*in an immigration category not listed above* in that quote)?
Is it an exhaustive list? Does it include all situations where you are not extending?
2. Does everyone applying for longterm visas and resident permits and entry clearances to the UK from outside the UK now get Biometric Residence Permits (including re ILR/ILE and associated family)? [obviously, not including nationals of a country in the European Economic Area (including the UK) or Switzerland].
So, no more stickers or vignettes in passports any more from outside the UK, only Biometric Residence Permits?. At least, with respect to applications for 6+month stays...
