Stamp 4 work rights

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone knows the exact rules around a stamp 4. I know that it's permission to remain and to work, but do you actually have to be employed for the duration of your stamp 4? Or if you left work in the last year would it still be okay to apply for residency at the end of the year?...

Stamp 4s are usually given to spouse of Irish/EU family members, its not a big deal if one is unemployed to get it extended. See below for the list:

This person is permitted to remain in Ireland until a specified date.
•Non-EEA family member of EEA citizen
•Non-EEA spouse of Irish citizen
•Refugee
•Non-EEA person granted family reunification under the Refugee Act 1996
•Programme refugee
•Non-EEA parent of Irish citizen child where parent was granted permission to remain in the State
•Non-EEA family member of EU citizen where family member qualifies under the European Communities (Free Movement of Persons) (No. 2) Regulations 2006 (S.I 656 of 2006)

also stamp 4 is given to the holders of the now defunct work visa scheme. I;m informed that this scheme no longer exists for new applicants but existing holders of work visa can still get it renewed.
