Renewal of Indian Passport: Sent an application by Post

Post by netacct » Mon Mar 31, 2008 7:41 pm

Hi All,

I am from India and here in UK on HSMP. My Indian Passport was about to expire so I sent an application along with my current passport to Indian Embassy in Birmingham by Post for renewal.

Its more than 6 weeks I have not received the passport and no communication.

Embassy staffs never ever answer any phones or reply to any emails.

I am just bit worried as I need to start a new job in 2 weeks time and also move to some other city.

Those from India in UK, you have every applied by post or any experience etc will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have renewed my passport few weeks ago at the London office by person. they returned my passport after three days.

In your case I would suggest that you visit the Birmingham office straightaway. Did you send your application by special delivery? Then you can carry that proof with you. In case they want to see that. Also, have you made a photocopy of your passport. Take that with you. In case it is lost in the post then they can make another another if you produce the photocopy of your original passport.

Historically Birmingham HC takes around 8 weeks to renew a passport.

Phone calls are not answered ;-)

London HC is super-fast.. when i renewed last year.. it took 10 working days and was available on the day they promised to deliver.

My friend applied last week for his Son, it took 3 days to get a new one. Both the applications are in-person.

8 weeks is fine as long as I get.
However, no communication and no updates from embassy is the most pathetic & lousy experience. It really sucks.

Hi,
Have you got your passport back? In how many days did you receive it? It has been 4 weeks since I applied by Post to HCI, London, but no replies yet!!
Thanks

Hi Doc79,
No luck as such, but I received a reply to my email saying that the 'Application is under process'. So I assume that they are taking their time to do it. A lady on the phone said that it might take 6-8 weeks. I'm waiting at the moment before paying them a visit.
Do let me know if you have any updates.
Thanks

Hi Trupti/Doc79

I received my passport today! Quite relieved now.. I applied at HCI London on 17/02 by post and after reading some scary stories was really worried if they are going to create any issues for me.. But it seems that HCI, London takes their time(not necessarily 3 weeks as stated on their website) for postal applications and if your case is clear, hopefully you should get the reissued passport back after 8 weeks at the max..
I was fine as I did not have any immediate travel plans and since HCI gave me regular updates on email, I was ok..

Hope you both would also be getting your passports next week.. Don't worry..

Hello doc79 and Mishbha

I also received my passport today. It took 6 weeks to re-issue the passport and not 2-3 weeks as stated on the website. Really thanks for keeping posted here which helped to calm the anxiety.

Hi,
I have applied for passport re-issue to HCI london by post. Its been 2 weeks now and I have tried sending them email, but they dont revert back with the details of my file number or application. I checked with Royalmail tracking and the application was delivered the next day. I need my passport urgently either the current one which still has few months to expire or the new one desperately. Please could anyone suggest if I should go to HCI London to find out about my passport reissue application as what is happening with it even after 2 weeks passed by?
regards
Raj
