What payment method did you guys use?

Post by nafe12 » Mon Mar 21, 2011 12:15 am

I was thinking postal order - but £850, I'd need like 4 of them? At 10£ea!

I'm worried about debit card, just incase my balance falls low, or they get a number wrong, or the amount is too high, or something...

Recommendations?

Postal order would cost you £40 quid. You can save that up by using debit card. I have used visa debit without any problems. I posted my application on 16th Feb and fees were deducted on 17th Feb.

However if you leave to remain is about to expire then postal orders would be safe bet as you wouldn't get another chance.

Postal order(s) and banker draft are the safest options.

I used a CC- AMEX. Phoned up the bank before sending the form advising them that there will be a transaction of around GBP1100 . The payment went through fine.

My Credit Card payment was declined and I had to use Postal Order.

I would always recommend Postal Orders, Bankers Draft and Cheque.

Thanks for replies.
@ T1_Mainframe, did you call the bank before making the payment? Probably this could be the reason for your refusal.

Thanks

Eventhough UKBA accepts Credit Card payment, Paying through Credit Card is not an advisable mode of payment since credit cards are four stage process, it can be declined at any stage, and there are many strings attached.

It is better to pay as Postal Order (it will cost you few bucks but worth doing).

Both me and my fiancee have used credit cards for our extensions from inside the UK (we both hold Tier 1 visas on our own) and didn't have any problems whatsoever.

We had not informed our credit card providers in advance either.

But depending on your credit card usage profile, they may not accept this payment in one go.

You can do one bankers draft for the whole family if you want to.
